I was able to visit the MINDSTORMS Celebration in Billund in 2008. One of the things that took place was a meeting of MINDSTORMS Community Partners (MCP), where there was a display of models they made using the MINDSTORMS NXT sets.
I was there as a reporter and a curious NXT user – I have a few sets and am now starting to explore them in terms of programming. Being with the MCP group was a bit overwhelming, but still a lot of fun.
The funniest thing, though, was when I built this with some parts laying around. I asked for some more parts, and in Billund, more parts is not just a couple, it's more like a hundred! I decided to build some of these for the MCP, so I got the pile of parts and then built them one at a time…but soon some of the MCP members joined in and helped build them, so before long, there was a small army of them!
Well, now I have instructions for the model available – All of 24 parts, this little guy is perfect as a desk decoration! He's posable too! And what do you need to get instructions? Not much really – the link is here!
And there's a bonus – one of the parts is a 1 x 2 x 2 brick (the chest piece). Send me a note at admin@brickjournal.com with your address and I will send you a promotional NXT version of the brick! I have about 75-100 of these, so send me a note soon!
